Vital surveillance tool
Repeating imaging at regular intervals, enables the identification of slight changes in skin lesions over time to enable early detection and prompt treatment.
Who needs a skin cancer check?
Anyone with one or more of the following risk factors should have regular skin cancer checks by a qualified medical professional at least once a year:
- Previous skin cancer diagnosis
- Family history of melanoma
- Severely sunburnt, especially as a child
- Lots of moles
- Green or blue eyes
- Fair skin and / or fair hair
- Spend a lot of time outdoors
- Ever used a solarium or tanning bed
Thorough, professional assessments for peace of mind
Scans conducted by experienced melanographers and doctors
Expedited referrals to specialists if required
What is mole mapping?
Mole mapping, also known as photomapping, is the process of photographing and recording the size, characteristics and location of moles and lesions on the skin surface.
By repeating the process at regular intervals, it is possible to detect small changes to existing moles or the appearance of new moles, which can be one of the first indicators of melanoma.
Early detection is key to skin cancer prevention
Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world. At least two in three Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer in their lifetime and every 6 hours someone dies from melanoma.
Early detection of melanoma is crucial. Evidence shows surgical removal of melanomas in their early stage, while they are still superficial, usually results in a high survival rate.

What to expect at your Vectra WB360 skin cancer check
- After the procedure is explained, you will remove your outer clothing (usually down to your underwear) and any jewellery, glasses and makeup. A locker will be provided for your belongings.
- The Melanographer will position you in front of the Vectra camera in the standardised position and capture imaging of your exposed skin surface. The images are stitched together to create a high-resolution 3D model of your body with a highly accurate record of the exposed skin surface.
- While the 3D model is rendering, a clinician will take a brief sun and medical history and conduct a manual skin check of your scalp, ears, webs of fingers and soles of feet to complement Vectra imaging.
- Digital dermoscopy is then used to inspect any suspicious lesions. This provides a 15-200x magnification of the sub-surface of the skin, to provide additional close-up detail of specific moles and lesions beyond what can be detected by the human eye alone.
- All digital dermoscopy images are tagged to the 3D model.
- Any lesions of concern are referred on to your dermatologist or skin doctor for further review and management. Tele-dermatology reporting of the images can also be arranged with our partner consultant dermatologist.
- You will be provided with a USB of your imaging to share with your GP or dermatologist.
